Mount Magazine Arkansas Trails

After a short lunch stop in 2017 at the Mount Magazine Lodge, we knew we wanted to return to stay a few nights. The place is super cool! We finally vacationed to Mount Magazine in April 2019 during our kids’ spring break and stayed at the lodge. There was not many other lodging options around the area.

The trails are called Huckleberry Mountain Horse Trails but are multi-use trails.

Official National Forest MVUM is located here:

This MVUM is much more detailed than the map available at the Mount Magazine visitor center, north of the lodge. The visitor center map doesn't show all the roads and trails, which misled us a few times.

A spacious parking trailhead is about 3 miles north of the lodge, right off Highway 309.

Location at trail 1687 and Big Shoal Creek, west side

Day 1 we rode 56.8 miles

Day 2 we rode 47.8 miles

The Big Shoal Creek water was high that we could only cross south of the road bridge. This caused us to ride a lot of road miles. We didn't want to backtrack on the same trails and it was getting late in the day, so we returned back to the lodge.
